When the remake of Secret of Mana was announced as a global release for PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and PC, some fans were disappointed by the lack of a Nintendo Switch version.

When the series first launched in 1991, the first three entries were exclusive to Nintendo hardware. However, it seems like the remake of one of the Super Nintendo’s most notable games, Secret of Mana, isn’t coming o the Switch due to how the initial planning phases of the project.

To clarify, DualShockers spoke with Mana series producer Masaru Oyamada and he let us know why the team opted to not bring the Secret of Mana remake to Nintendo Switch, while providing some hope for a future port:

I should give you a bit of a background on how this title came to be. The planning phase for Secret of Mana Remake was approximately two years ago after we finished the remake of Adventures of Mana on PlayStation Vita. At that time the Switch hadn’t been announced yet as a platform, so it wasn’t included in our original plans.

However, after we had announced this game in all regions, we received a lot of feedback from people requesting a Switch version. We were actually surprised to hear the number of responses to the Switch version. We’ve heard their voices and we are trying to figure out if there’s anything we can do. With that said, our focus right now is on the PS4, PS Vita, and PC versions.

It seems like there might be a chance for the Secret of Mana remake to appear on Switch, but we’ll probably have to wait after the game is released on PS4, PS Vita and PC-via Steam on February 15.

In case you missed it, Oyamada-san also mentioned that the team will consider the Switch for a possible future Mana title. Also, check out our preview of the most recent build as well as a video of the gimmick in the Moon Palace.
