With a visual style that fuses the retro aesthetics of the ’80s and challenging gameplay that harkens back to Hotline Miami, Katana Zero is already looking like one of the must-own Nintendo Switch titles that will arrive this year, at least if the pre-orders from Devolver Digital seem to be anything to go by.
Publisher Devolver Digital revealed that Katana Zero is officially the company’s most pre-ordered title yet for Nintendo Switch in the leadup to its release, with the game scheduled to arrive on April 18 (tomorrow) for Switch, PC, and Mac. While no official numbers were confirmed, it’s still on an impressive sales track given that Devolver has been behind a number of popular titles (especially on Switch), such as Enter the Gungeon and last year’s indie darling Gris.
After having gotten some hands-on time with Katana Zero myself at PAX East 2019 a few weeks ago, I can certainly say that the upcoming action-platformer from Askiisoft is definitely worthy of the buzz that it has been building over the past few months, especially when it comes down to the game’s challenging but satisfying action. I personally can’t wait to see more of the game once it’s finally out this week, and thankfully, that won’t be too much longer.
Katana Zero will release for Nintendo Switch, PC, and Mac on April 18, 2019.
