The Last of Us Part 2 Petition Calls For Remake of the Storyline [Spoilers]

Naughty Dog, News, Originals, Platforms, PS4, Sony Interactive Entertainment, the last of us, the last of us 2, the last of us: part 2

It’s no secret that Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part 2 has caused a split across the gaming landscape with fans loving it and others hating it because of the story and the fact the game is “pushing an agenda”. But do you recall when Game of Thrones had that ending that a large majority of fans weren’t happy with? If you do, you’ll probably remember seeing petitions go up calling for the entire final season to be remade. The same thing is happening with The Last of Us Part 2 unsurprisingly.

A petition over on Change.org has been created by a user “Joel Miller” — hah. The petition calls for the storyline of the game to be remade. The description explains that the game “delivered a great game play, graphics, and mechanics, but the story was extremely bad,”

It continues. “they killed off our favorite character and forced us to use the character that killed off Joel and we were supposed to connect to abbey [sic] throughout half of the game, and the main character isn’t even ellie, we want ND to remake the game with the scenes they provided at every trailer with Joel and not model swap him from flashbacks,”

The petition calls for the remake of The Last of Us Part 2 because it, “was a massive disrespect for every fan that waited 7 years for this sequel, and we need to get what we deserved and it was not this game.” At the time of writing, there have been 12,400 signatures.

This isn’t at all surprising considering how people were reacting to the leaked footage that showed Joel’s death. Following the leaks, there were angry gamers actively sharing them with random people who were talking about the game. They even took the time to randomly private messaging people with videos and GIFs.

Gamers have been incredibly vocal about their annoyance at Joel’s death, the fact Ellie is a lesbian, and that they didn’t want to play as Abby, making transphobic comments about the character. There were even gamers saying on social media that they were going to boycott the game — of course, accounts and comments wound up deleted, probably by choice or by being reported for making toxic comments. A petition was even set up to try and organize a boycott. Boycotts however were more or less individual choices and not mass organized as people seem to assume.

Despite this outrage at The Last of Us Part 2’s story and topics, the game has become one of Sony’s fastest-selling PS4 titles in the UK. I certainly wouldn’t expect the petition to do any good regardless of how many people sign it, especially considering an HBO series is due to enter production, and there have been talks of a third The Last of Us.

The Last of Us Part 2 is available on PS4 and we finally have our review online for your reading pleasure.
