Today, Rockstar Games has announced via press release new features added this week to Grand Theft Auto Online, which adds a new racing mode, hefty discounts, and more into the popular title.

According to the developer, as part of its most extensive update to date, the Southern San Andreas Super Sports Series,  a new racing mode titled Target Assault Races has been added to the game. In Target Assault Races, players are placed in teams of two in a mode that will test their marksmanship and racing skills. Target Assault Races features seven distinct race tracks, which include a healthy assortment of weaponized vehicles including the stylish Vapid Caracara, a four-door pickup truck with a machine gun mounted on the back of the bed.

Players that assume the role as the Gunner are tasked with eliminating targets from a mounted gun, while the Driver races to outwit their opponent. After each lap, the Gunner and the Driver roles will switch and whichever team finishes with the most points will be crowned the victor.

Gamers can garner up bonus points by finishing in the top three in each lap as well as passing through Checkpoints ahead of your opponents. However, as mentioned previously, this racing mode is all about accuracy. The best way you can rack up a beefy score is by shooting smaller targets, (with more points awarded if you manage to aim in the dead center of each target). Of course, trigger-happy shooters, who are not focused on precision have large targets they can prey as well, so choose your play style wisely.

While players who control the Driver, play a crucial role for their gunman. If your Gunner is a sharpshooter and is on a roll, you will be tasked with maintaining a consistent speed, while also keeping the car steady for your marksman to hit their targets.

In addition to a new racing mode, players who participate in Target Assault Races will receive double GTA$ and RP now until Monday, April 9.

Lastly, Grand Theft Auto Online offers a slew of discounts this week. With prices cuts on select Assault Vehicles such as the Mammoth Avenger, which is now 30% off until Monday.
