Ever since players first set foot into the role of Master Chief, the Halo series has taken players through a vast intergalactic conflict of mythic proportions, and while the series has been no stranger to experimenting with other media, it appears that Halo is making the jump to the small screen with the debut of a new TV series.

Over on Xbox Wire, an announcement from 343 Industries revealed that Showtime is developing a TV series adaptation of the Halo franchise, with the network officially ordering a 10-episode first season for the series, which will release in hour-long installments.

As far as the actual storyline of the series, Showtime detailed that the series will bring viewers an adaptation of the long-running game series that shows “an epic 26th-century conflict between humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant,” the signature antagonistic alien race throughout the Halo series.

The series will be executive produced by Kyle Killen (NBC’s Awake), while many episodes of the first season will be directed by Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) while also serving as an executive producer on the series. No information on the debut of the series was revealed at this time, though the series will begin entering production in early 2019.

Showtime president and CEO David Nevins explained in a statement that “Halo is our most ambitious series ever, and we expect audiences who have been anticipating it for years to be thoroughly rewarded.” Nevins also added that the series will aim to be “thrilling, expansive, and provocative,” while also citing that the series’ creative team has a vision for the Halo series that will “enthrall fans of the game while also drawing the uninitiated into a world of complex characters that populate this unique universe.”

The upcoming Halo television series from Showtime will be produced in conjunction with Amblin Television and 343 Industries, while CBS Studios International will be the series’ distributor across the globe.
