Shin Megami Tensei V Release Date Potentially Planned for First Quarter of 2021

After years of silence, Shin Megami Tensei V re-emerged just a few weeks back with a new trailer and the surprising revelation that a simultaneous worldwide release was in the cards. While a specific date outside of the broad window of 2021 wasn’t provided, Sega seems to have now given us a better idea of when to expect the game next year.

Spotted by Persona Central, Sega recently outlined its upcoming release schedule for the company’s current fiscal year. Following its re-reveal, Shin Megami Tensei V now was displayed on the publisher’s list of upcoming releases for the fiscal year, which by proxy, greatly narrows down the period in which the game is set to launch.

For those unaware, Sega’s fiscal year, along with that of many other video game publishers, begins in April and comes to a close at the end of March. As such, if Shin Megami Tensei V is set to arrive in 2021, it would have to release within Sega’s fourth quarter of its fiscal period. With this in mind, it means that the ensuing release for SMTV would then have to occur at some point between January 1 and March 31 of next year.

That said, forecasts like this are never set in stone by any means and Sega or Atlus internally could have to shift the date of Shin Megami Tensei V at any point, if needed. This is why Sega proper likely hasn’t announced a more narrowed release window to the public such as Winter 2021 or Spring 2021. Still, it’s nice to know that after waiting so long, the next major entry in the franchise could be even closer than we once imagined.

Still, even if SMTV doesn’t end up releasing in this window next year, we still have a “new” installment in the series to look forward to in just a few months. Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne HD Remaster is set to hit both the PS4 and Switch later this fall on October 29.
