In the absence of a proper F-Zero game for modern Nintendo platforms, third-party games such as Redout have filled the void. This particular racing game from developer 34BigThings previously released on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Mac, but its announced Switch version has been missing in action since then. Through a press email, publisher Nicalis, Inc. finally announced that the game will come to Switch on May 14.

This digital release on Switch will be known as the”Lightspeed Edition,” and it will contain all of the previously-released DLC, a free bonus at a $40 value. For those who missed out on the game in the first place, Redout takes place in the year 2560 and finds its inspiration from games like F-Zero and Wipeout. The premise of the game has the most barren wastelands of Earth transformed into the home for “the galaxy’s most popular sport.”

Redout features “11 event types and over 200 different total events,” with both a single-player career mode and a multiplayer race mode that supports up to six players. Naturally, as a racing game, expect full leaderboard support as well. Expect 60 courses set in 12 futuristic locations, representing a variety of environments and locales, such as desert plains, frozen tundras, and sunny coastlines.

Meanwhile, 34BigThings is still working on Redout: Space Assault, which is more of a tactical simulation game. That game was announced to be in an alpha state, with a previously announced release window for Q1 2019. You can read our review of the previous versions of Redout right here.
