On August 28, Sega revealed Project Black with a teaser site and a music video. A live stream will be coming on September 2 to reveal more on the project. Three characters were revealed as well. We translated everything that was revealed so far.

Project Black, officially stylized as B.L.A.C.K. looks to be a music themed venture from Sega, but is also definitely linked to the Sakura Wars franchise in some form. There are multiple hints pointing toward it. B.L.A.C.K. stands for Brilliant Legislative Artistic Celebrity Knights. It’s described as a group of artists who sing and fight to protect Japan. Just like the Combat Revues / Kagekidan of Sakura Wars. Sega also recently trademarked Sakura Taisen B.L.A.C.K. and the staff already teased more Sakura Wars to come.

An official Twitter account for Project Black was also opened. The account is correctly holding a Follow + RT campaign to win Apple Store and Google Play gift cards:

Here are additional details on the Project Black characters revealed so far by Sega:

The project’s teaser site explains there are innumerable members of B.L.A.C.K., including trainee members, all supported by the citizens. However, there are 12 members regarded as the strongest, and titled the Noble 12. The three characters below are part of the Noble 12.

We have Kurumi Saimei, Prana Tosei, and Meisa Akashi. Their seiyuu weren’t revealed yet. However, we can hear their voices in the music video:

The song is titled Wonderful Future and was composed by Kohei Tanaka, the composer of the Sakura Taisen series. Kohei Tanaka is also following Project Black‘s Twitter account.

The Project Black logo is also straight outta Sakura Taisen. The Project Black livestream will be on September 2 at 2000 JST (Click here for a time conversion table).

Personally speaking, my guess is that Project Black by Sega is a new Sakura Taisen rhythm mobile game. As for the character designer, I’d say it’s Raita Honjou, at the very least for Meisa Akashi. I don’t have any guesses for the seiyuu though. We’ll know for sure on September 2. We will be writing a stream summary like every Sakura Taisen stream so far.

DualShockers recently interviewed the Sakura Wars staff at Sega, with Director Tetsuya Ootsubo telling us they’d love to work on a spinoff title. He also said they’d like to bring the game to as many people as possible, when asked about ports to other platforms.

Sakura Wars is currently available on PS4. If you enjoyed our review and haven’t tried out the game yet, you can grab it on Amazon to support us.
