Despite launching nearly four years ago now, Pokemon GO has continued to build a huge audience over the years and expand with its mobile take on the Pokemon catching experience. While players around the world are gearing up for the upcoming GO Fest 2020, which will be adapt to an online format this year, The Pokemon Company revealed some other big updates coming to the game in 2020; literally and figuratively.

During its latest Pokemon Presents broadcast, The Pokemon Company shared some new information on GO–which is developed by Niantic–on new content and updates that players can look forward to later this year. Specifically, the biggest announcement during the presentation is that Mega Evolutions (introduced in 2013’s Pokemon X & Y) will finally be making their way into the mobile title, allowing players to turn certain Pokemon into enhanced, more powerful evolved versions in battle for a limited time.

According to The Pokemon Company, Mega Evolutions will be introduced in the game later this year, and that Niantic is “working to deliver a new take on Mega Evolution that is enhanced by GO‘s unique gameplay.” Given that the mobile game features a more streamlined take on battles compared to the mainline Pokemon games, it sounds like GO will make a few tweaks to the Mega Evolution system to better fit its mobile gameplay.

In addition to the announcement of Mega Evolutions, Niantic also shared a few more details on other new content coming to the game later this year. The studio shared that Galarian Farfetch’d will be added to the game for players to catch, while players can also get special in-game avatar items based on the new Isle of Armor expansion, which launched today as part of the Sword & Shield expansion pass.

Pokemon GO is available now on iOS and Android.
