NPD Group, which tracks U.S. video game sales, has released information to show that Nintendo Switch was the highest selling console for the month of October 2017. However, the Nintendo dominance doesn’t stop there, as the Super NES Classic Edition charted as the number 2 spot.

Taking into account the sales gathered from the Nintendo 3DS family of systems, Nintendo hardware sales account for two-thirds of the video game hardware sold in the United States. This means that Nintendo’s current streak for holding this spot is now at two months as we lead into the holiday months of November and December, where the real hardware sales happen. It should be noted that Nintendo sold more than 1 million units for the month of October for the first time since 2011, which is an accomplishment that should be recognized.

The report also added that “Super Mario Odyssey for Nintendo Switch emerged as the top-selling video game of the month on the NPD sales chart”. This is a huge accomplishment for the game considering it released on October 27.

With the release of Microsoft’s new Xbox One X, it will be interesting to see where consumers spend their money during the holiday season. Whether it’s finding a powerful game console for their new 4k television or diving into the strong first party lineup of Nintendo titles, this holiday will surely be packed with surprises.

One game release that has potential of turning sales for Nintendo’s console hybrid is the release of Xenoblade Chronicles 2, coming December 1 world wide. DualShockers recently released our preview of the game covering the first 25 hours of gameplay.
