Nintendo Plans to Increase Switch Production to Meet Homebound Gamer’s Demands

In a recent report from Nikkei Asian Review, it was revealed that Nintendo is looking to increase Switch production by 10% from last year. This is all in light of the growing demand for in-home entertainment as people look for something to do during their coronavirus isolation. While Nintendo doesn’t make the Switch itself, they have “asked multiple suppliers and contract assemblers to prepare for additional production”. It’s a move that feels completely needed given how the world is going.

Last month, Nintendo saw a huge increase in sales when Animal Crossing: New Horizons launched. In Japan alone, the game has sold over 3 million copies. And that level of demand has led to Switch shortage problems around the world. Hopefully, this move will help get Switches into the hands of everyone who wants them.

And there’s never been a better time to be a Switch owner. Just over the last 24 hours, we’ve received some massive content announcements. Animal Crossing: New Horizons is getting a sizeable April update this week that adds new villagers and season events. And Super Mario Maker 2 had a huge new update announced last night. In what Nintendo is calling the final “major” update, fans will be able to build their own Mario world with the new World Maker tool. It’s something people have been wanting for a while now and it’s awesome that Nintendo has finally added it.

So, if you don’t have a Nintendo Switch yet and are looking to get one, hold off on buying one. With more hopefully on the way, it doesn’t make much sense to buy one at a marked up rate. Instead, wait for Nintendo to meet the increased demand. And they really should because there aren’t many people who couldn’t use some more of that Animal Crossing charm and Nintendo family fun in their lives.
