New Phantasy Star JRPG Teased… And it’s for Mobile

Android, iOS, News, Originals, Platforms, Sega

Today Sega opened a count-down website teasing the reveal of a brand new JRPG of the Phantasy Star series.

The game will be part of the celebration for the 30th anniversary of the old and glorious RPG franchise. The reveal will come at noon Japan time on July 24th.

If you’re wondering, the game will be for iOS and Android, so there’s that.

The 30th anniversary of the series is actually already past, since the original Phantasy Star released in Japan for the Sega Master System on December 20th, 1987.

The accompanying press release also mentioned that Phantasy Star Online 2 passed five million registered users. Of course, this is quite painful to read, since Sega has promised a western release long ago, and never kept it. As of now, the western launch of the game is lost in limbo, and the publisher never officially admitted that the project is canceled. As a matter of fact, we don’t even know if it is, even if I wouldn’t hold my breath about it.
