Following its announcement earlier this month, Warner Bros. has now revealed the first official trailer for the upcoming animated film Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge.

The trailer, which was released via IGN, gives us an idea of the story that this movie will follow. For the most part, it seems to follow the general story of the original games in the series, centered around the Mortal Kombat tournament that is being held by Shang Tsung. Other characters such as Liu Kang, Sub Zero, Raiden, Johnny Cage, and of course, Scorpion can also be seen throughout the trailer as well.

Here’s the full description of the movie’s story will entail:

“Based on the worldwide hit game created by Ed Boon & John Tobias, Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge spotlights the once-in-a-generation tournament between the champions of Outworld and Earthrealm – a competition that will ultimately determine the fate of Earth and all its citizens. Lord Raiden, protector of Earthrealm, must gather the greatest fighters of his realm to defend it from the evil Shang Tsung in the battle to end all battles – Mortal Kombat!”

All in all, I think the movie looks pretty solid. If you’ve watched other animated films that are released by Warner Bros., namely the ones based on DC Comics, this MK movie seems to have a lot in common with those. That said, WB’s animated features have been very hit and miss over the years. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that Mortal Kombat Legends ends up on the positive side of the spectrum.

Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge still doesn’t have a release date, but it’s slated to arrive sometime this Spring. Keep an eye out in the coming weeks as we’ll likely start to hear more about its arrival.

For more on Mortal Kombat feature films, it’s also worth noting that a new live-action iteration of the franchise is set to hit theaters in 2021.
