Mega Drive Mini, Shenmue I & II HD, New Sakura Taisen, and More Announced by Sega

News, Originals, PC, PS4, Sakura Taisen, Sega Ages, Shenmue I & II, Switch, Xbox One

The celebrations for SegaFes have started in Akihabara, Tokyo, and Sega made a few surprise announcements via Sega Sammy President Haruki Satomi.

The first announcement is the Mega Drive Mini, a mini console reminiscent of the NES and SNES Classic Mini, which will come in 2018. Satomi-san also mentioned that more details will be announced at a later date.

The second announcement will bring a smile on the lips of many. Shenmue I & II Will come to PS4 in 2018 in Japan, while the west will get it for Xbox One, PS4, and PC this year.

The game will include both English and Japanese voiceovers, visuals options for PC, a choice between modern and classic control schemes, fully scalable screen resolution, and it will come both in physical and digital forms.

I don’t think I need to say much to introduce the games, but they were the brainchild of Yu Suzuki, who is currently working on Shenmue III independently from Sega. The first released for Dreamcast in 1999, while the second came for Dreamcast in 2001, and Xbox in 2002.

The third announcement is Sega Ages for Nintendo Switch, which will include classic titles like Sonic the Hedgehog, Thunder Fire IV, Phantasy Star, and More. A total of fifteen games will be included.

The fourth announcement is a brand new Sakura Taisen project that will be faithful to the DNA of the veteran and beloved franchise. The series, known in the west as Sakura Wars, was a mix between tactical RPG, visual novel, and dating simulator. The latest numbered title is Sakura Taisen V released in Japan in 2005 for PS2, and in the west in 2010 for PS2 and Wii as Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love.

The game will be once more set in the Imperial Capital of Tokyo in its fictional version of the Taisho Era.
