For those of you also having a pretty down 2020 (seems like the entire world is), there was one announcement that made me feel like a 10-year-old kid again. About a month ago during the Mario direct, Nintendo announced Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, a new Mario Kart title that puts the track quite literally in your living room. Nintendo has now followed that up with an overview trailer for the game that shows that this is more than just a Mario themed RC car, its a real Mario Kart Game.
During the overview trailer, Nintendo was pretty thorough about covering all of the details we need to know for the launch of the game. Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit will contain all of the classic elements from the hit franchise. Mushrooms will speed your kart up, being hit by items will slow your kart down. Sadly, there is probably now drifting, but it might be best for your living room that you can’t drift.
Nintendo also covered how to assemble tracks inside of your home. Players will need to assemble the 4 gates around their play area and drive through them in numerical order. This will draw the course track. The trailer showed all kinds of different designs, some were pretty simple and others were pretty complex track designs. Players will even be able to make home items obstacles such as driving underneath furniture.
Nintendo also announced that the game will have a Grand Prix mode that contains 24 courses in total. Since you technically design the track, the actual layout of the track won’t be changed, but different courses will have different themes with different obstacles in them. Some examples were Cheap Cheap Reef which had some Cheap Cheaps swimming on the track and a water theme to make it seem that Mario is driving underwater. Another shown was Ember Island, a track set that has molten rocks falling from the sky. And yes, there was a Rainbow Road course.
The game will feature all of the Mario Kart items we love such as mushrooms, shells, bullet bills, and the damned blue shell. On top of that, racers can play in 50 CC to 200 CC modes, just like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. It also features a mirror mode, timed races, and smart steering for those who keep banging into their furniture.
Players will be able to collect coins that can be used on rewards. Those rewards allow players to customize their karts.
Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit will be available in two different sets, a Mario set or a Luigi set. The package comes with the kart, four gates to design the track, 2 arrow signboards that can be placed to show the direction of the course, and finally a digital copy of the game. It wasn’t stated if a physical copy will ever be available. Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit will release on October 16 for Nintendo Switch.
