There was much to love about Katana Zero, from the combat to the overall aesthetic, but the original musical soundtrack definitely played a large part in all of it. Those addicted to the electronic instrumentals of the game are now in luck, with the Katana Zero soundtrack available on multiple platforms. Anyone can purchase the soundtrack on iTunes or Bandcamp, or stream on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, or SoundCloud.

Music comes from artists and labels LudoWic, Bill Kiley, Tunç Çakır, DJ Electrohead, and Justin Stander. There may be obvious comparisons to Hotline Miami in terms of gameplay, aesthetic, and difficulty, but this soundtrack does more than enough to stand out on its own. It is a violent and fast-paced game, but Katana Zero is also one about careful planning and heavy contemplation, and as intense as the music became at points, it surprisingly made for some good thinkin’ tunes.

The soundtrack is made up of 34 tracks for a total of an hour and 34 minutes. The game has been quite successful, selling 100,000 copies in its first week, with DLC to come in the future. Unfortunately, at the moment, players in New Zealand and Australia haven’t been able to experience the game for themselves, with their rating board refusing classification through some sort of automated process.

Along with some techno, electronic, house, or whatever genre you’d like to classify this music under, there are also pieces that reflect on the surreal nature of the game, with ominous electronic sounds. And players who remember the therapist character will be able to associate the unusual piano music with him as well, making for a slightly more diverse soundtrack than that of other similar games.

In case you need a reminder about how much we at the site love Katana Zero, look back to our PAX East preview and our full review of the game. The announcement tweet is below, along with the full soundtrack on Spotify, if you just can’t wait to listen to it. Katana Zero is on Nintendo Switch, where it was the most pre-ordered Devolver Digital game to date, PC, and Mac.
