Genshin Impact players have just found a new way to use Plunging Attacks into combos, without the need of jumping from a higher position, some Chinese players are dubbing it the Dragon Strike, and it’s mainly done with Claymore characters such as Razor. Here’s how you do it.

First off, keep in mind this technique, or Dragon Strike, is extremely hard to trigger. Don’t feel down if you can’t do it at all.

I’m sure you already noticed how when hitting enemies in Genshin, you have a very small slowdown? This is especially noticeable when hitting enemies equipped with shields. Long story short, Dragon Strike consists of using this slowndown, which is commonly called hitlag, to quickly dash, jump, and trigger a Plunging Attack. In case you haven’t noticed, Damage modifiers for Plunging Attack are very high. So being able to do them in succession, without prior elevation, is super valuable.

So how do I do the Dragon Strike?

First, you need your character to be fast enough. The easiest way to do that, is to have two Anemo characters in your active party. In order to trigger the Anemo Resonance bonus, which slightly increases your characters’ movement speed. Without this bonus, it’s pretty much impossible, or at least incredibly difficult to trigger Dragon Strike.

Another way to have the necessary speed is to trigger Diona’s shield with her Elemental Skill. Moreover, it’s easier if you’re using Diluc. His tall height makes Dragon Strike easier to pull off. And he’s also a Claymore character. But it works quite well with Razor too.

Using Razor, Diluc, or another Claymore character, having Diona’s shield on, and including two Anemo characters in your party, will make it much easier to trigger Dragonstrike. Once you’ve got the speed conditions fulfilled, you just need to make use of the previously mentioned hitlag. Dashing and jumping immediately during hitlag, giving you enough altitude to Plunge Attack.

Lastly, keep in mind Dragon Strike will be very hard to do if you’re lagging. You might want to switch to lower your graphics settings too.

YouTuber TenTen explained how to Dragon Strike particularly well in his video:

Personally speaking, I’d say you should wait before investing into builds taking into account Dragon Strike right away. Don’t spend a Crown to level up Diluc, Beidou, or Razor’s Normal Attack talent past level 9 just yet. Because it’s possible miHoYo could patch Dragon Strike out. You can definitely train to pull off the technique frequently, but don’t bet on it too much yet.

Version 1.4 Invitation of Windblume is launching on March 17. Genshin Impact is available on PC, PS4, PS5, and Mobile. A Switch version was also announced.
