Half-Life: Alyx Developer Touches on Possible Future Half-Life Titles

While fans may be disappointed that Half-Life: Alyx is exclusive only to those with virtual reality units, there may be a slight, glimmering hope that Valve is working on another title in the series. This hope comes from an interview from Game Informer who spoke with Valve developer, Robin Walker.

“it’s been incredibly rewarding to refamiliarize ourselves with its [Half-Life’s] characters, setting, and mechanics.” Walker explains when responding to a question about whether Valve is working on Half-Life 3. “There are Half-Life: Alyx team members who have been at Valve since Half-Life 2, and quite a few who go back to the original Half-Life.” Valve recently revealed that Campo Santo —which was acquired by Valve— has stopped working on their upcoming In The Valley of Gods so that the developers could help with other Valve projects.

“There are also people on the team for whom Half-Life: Alyx is their first time working on this series at all – and many of them certainly hope it’s not the last.” He continues. While the title has seen a huge surge of Valve Index VR units sell out, there are still many who simply cannot afford a VR headset, let alone a beefy rig to run the game.

Walker adds, “We absolutely see Half-Life: Alyx as our return to this world, not the end of it.”

While it’s not official confirmation that there is a non-VR exclusive title set in the universe still to come, it certainly sounds like the developers are wanting to continue working on titles in the same universe. What are your thoughts? Are you expecting to see Half-Life 3 at some point? Did the official gameplay videos for the upcoming game get you excited to see the world living and breathing once more?
