I don’t know about you, but playing Hades with a regular controller is hard enough. How about trying to beat the entire game using chopped-up pomegranates? Supergiant Games’ Greek-themed roguelike title involves running around fighting many enemies that’s certainly not slow-paced and where you find yourself button mashing the hell out of your keyboard or switch joy-cons.

Pomegranates in Hades do have a purpose due to allowing the player to collect them as power-ups while also serving a purpose in Greek mythology, too. One Twitch streamer decided to wire up some of these tasty poms to create an actual useable controller for the game.

Streamer Dylan “Rudeism” Beck cut up a pomegranate into little pieces and placed his self-made controller on a tea towel to stop pomegranate juice from leaking all over the place. To allow the pomegranates to be used as a controller, Beck wired up the pom pieces to a circuit board and then another wire from the board to his arm to create an interactive loop process. After many failed attempts to beat the final boss, Beck finally did it in a heart-stopping final victory. You can check out the video of the entire process below.

This isn’t Beck’s first time trying out different types of controllers for games, previously he took on Fall Guys by using some jelly beans, playing Apex Legends with the aid of a mannequin leg, and Overwatch with a bunch of bananas. Make sure you check out his YouTube channel where you can watch all of his brilliantly fun and unique take on playing games.

Just like Zagreus’ quest to reach the surface and get past the underworld, we here at DualShockers couldn’t escape from Hades and named it as our Game of the Year for 2020. If you haven’t had a chance to pick it up, Hades is available now on Nintendo Switch and PC. You can also check out our review of the game right here.
