Guns of Icarus Alliance, a popular multiplayer steampunk game on PC, has been teased for PS4 for some time. Today, developer Muse Games announced that Guns of Icarus Alliance would finally be launching on PS4 on May 1, and even features some unique cross-platform features.
The game will cost $14.99 on PS4 at launch, though those who pre-order get 25% off alongside an exclusive costume and ship figurehead. For those of you who don’t know, Guns of Icarus Alliance allows players to participate in large 32 player PvP and PvE airship battles; teams are split into four players who all have to work in tandem to make sure their team and ship survive.
As is to be expected, the PS4 version will include cross-platform play with the PC release of Guns of Icarus Alliance. That being said, this title will be the first PS4 game to feature full text and voice chat between PC and PS4 players, which alleviates some communication problems cross-platform games sometimes run into. Howard Tsao, Team Lead at Muse Games, commented on the special cross-platform feature:
“Making the first game to fully provide cross-platform voice chat was a monumental task for the development team, but we knew in order to experience Guns of Icarus the correct way we had to implement it in both the PS4 and PC versions. In Guns of Icarus Alliance, a team’s successes and failures depends on their communication skills, and our voice chat allows players to become a coordinated unit, regardless of platform.”
Cross-platform voice and text chat is certainly a breakthrough and innovative feature for multiplayer games. Now we just have to wait for PS4 to have cross-platform compatibility with the Xbox One.
