While Freedom Planet is all about speed, you wouldn’t be able to tell by the Nintendo Switch port’s development process. Galaxy Trail initially teased the game for the Switch in a social media post in January, posting a picture featuring a copy of Freedom Planet physically on top of a Switch console. In June, Galaxy Trail posted a similar picture, however, the game itself was actually running on the Switch hardware. The day after that image was posted, XSEED Games, Freedom Planet‘s publisher, formally announced that the game would be coming to the Nintendo Switch.
While Freedom Planet, a four-year old game, arrives on the Switch today, the game’s sequel still waits in limbo. Freedom Planet 2 was officially announced back in 2015, however, neither Galaxy Trail nor XSEED Games have announced a firm release date.
You can check out the launch trailer for the Nintendo Switch version of Freedom Planet below. The game is also available on PlayStation 4, Wii U, Windows, OS X, and Linux.
