The battle royale genre sure is a popular one. So much so, games you would never expect have implemented the mode in some interesting modes. The Forza Horizon 4 battle royale mode is the newest example of this, pinning a large group of players against each other across its open-world.

Aptly named “The Eliminator,” up to 72 players drive across Forza Horizon 4‘s open-world Britain to race head-to-head against each other, earning upgrades and faster cars along the way. Like other battle royale modes, the playable area will get smaller as time goes on with the last remaining racer winning the match. You can get a general gist of how The Eliminator mode will work in the video above.

The Forza Horizon 4 battle royale mode will be available for free in its Series 17 update. You won’t have to wait long either, as the update will be live tomorrow, on December 12. The update will also introduce some new vehicles, including the 1998 Toyota Supra RZ.

Although it seems odd to have a battle royale mode in Playground Games’ open-world racer, it is actually quite fitting. If you have played past Forza Horizon 4‘s campaign, there are modes where you and a ton of other racers team up to complete objectives together that are reminiscent to Destiny‘s Public Events.

Forza Horizon 4 isn’t the only game to oddly implement a battle royale inspired mode. NHL 20 also has a mode called “Eliminator” that can be played either 3v3 or 1v1v1. Its really just an elimination-style tournament, but it does pin 81 players against each other with the last one standing winning the tournament.

Forza Horizon 4 is available right now for Xbox One and PC. If you are an Xbox Game Pass subscriber, it is available on the video game subscription service. If you’re not sure if you want take a drive in Playground Games’ open-world Britain, you can check out my review of the game.
