Game of Thrones has taken the world by storm since the TV show premiered on HBO in 2011. The series has forayed into console video game territory before with the Telltale and Cyanide developed titles, but has found more success on iOS and Android with games like Game of Thrones: Conquest. Today, Behaviour Interactive announced that they are partnering with HBO in order to release a free-to-play Game of Thrones strategy game on iOS and Android.

This free to play title will be developed alongside Chinese developer and publisher GAEA in order to “craft this game for the global market” according to Rémi Racine, CEO and Executive Producer at Behaviour Interactive. All of the game’s developers are “ardent fans” of the series, so the game looks to be a passion project for many of those involved.

The game is aiming to adapt to the thick lore of the Game of Thrones world into an engaging mobile game where players will want to constantly return in order to explore Westeros to its fullest extent. Yanzhi Wang, CEO of GAEA, is also enthusiastic about developing the game:

“We are very excited to team up with Behaviour Interactive. GAEA has been devoted to innovative mobile gaming experiences, and with the best-in-class production value that Behaviour will bring, we aim to provide fans and gamers worldwide with an extensive Game of Thrones adventure on mobile devices.”

Meanwhile, Vice Presiden of Licensing & Retail at HBO Jeff Peters also commented on working with Behavior Interactive and GAEA on this mobile game:

“The Game of Thrones fan base is highly engaged and stretches across all corners of the globe. Our job is to give those fans engaging new ways to immerse themselves in the world of the show, and we’re excited to see what innovative ideas Behaviour brings to the table.”

A title and release window for this Game of Thrones mobile title have not yet been revealed. While I would prefer a console game, I am certainly curious to see how this mobile game pans out.
