Today, Variety revealed that Alien: Blackout had appeared on publisher D3 Go!’s website. The publisher’s page share details of the upcoming game set in the Alien universe and it isn’t Alien: Isolation 2 as many had been hoping.

Back in November 2018, 20th Century Fox trademarked Alien: Blackout and many people wondered if this would be bringing a second installment to the Alien: Isolation title that came from Creative Assembly and Feral Interactive. Earlier this month the Alien Twitter account had started Tweeting teasers. One teaser asked, “Who is Amanda Ripley?” stating that “her story deserves to be told.” Another teased, “In 2019, Amanda Ripley will uncover the secrets it left behind“.

However, it appears that Alien: Blackout is not the next Alien: Isolation and is, in fact, a mobile phone game that stars Amanda Ripley. It has been rated T (Teen) and finds you attempting to stay alive whilst trapped on board the Weyland-Yutani space station. Lurking in the shadows is the haunting Xenomorph that hunts you down as you try to outsmart it by making choices that can change the outcome.

It has been detailed that there are seven levels that will require you to guide a crew through the station using only the stations emergency systems through a holographic map. Alien: Blackout takes place between the films, Alien and Aliens and has a focus on forcing you to make choices that impact the game.

Additionally, this title does, in fact, have 20th Century Fox behind it, so it appears as if there’s no second Alien: Isolation on the horizon, at least not for the time being anyway. A new Twitter account is also being linked through the Alien: Blackout page, but it is currently set to a private account, either way, it’s worth keeping eyes on it for if it goes live.

There are some images below that have been released, but no further details showing up gameplay appear to have surfaced yet, however going by the images, I’d say the gameplay focuses on watching the crews movement through the map, instructing them whether to run, hide, sneak and more. The one image below shows crew heartbeats and a timer under “blackout” potentially meaning that the station goes black for a while, giving the Alien an advantage. I guess we’ll find out sometime this year how it plays.

Alien: Blackout will be available on iOS, Android, and on the Amazon Appstore. A release date has not been set yet.
