7 Predictions for The September 2021 Nintendo Direct

News, Nintendo, Nintendo Direct, Originals, Switch

Nintendo fans rejoice! For the first time since June, and Nintendo’s E3 appearance, a Nintendo Direct is on the horizon.

It’s somewhat of a tradition for Nintendo to have a direct during this time of year and 2021 is set to be no different with the company promising “40 minutes of information focused mainly on #NintendoSwitch games launching this winter.”

So, as is tradition now, here are seven of my best predictions for the Nintendo Direct happening in September 2021.

Animal Crossing 2.0 Finally Confirmed

After becoming one of the best selling Nintendo titles of all time, and providing a social lifeline and a bit of escape during the pandemic for many, Nintendo seems to have just abandoned Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

The title has sold 30 million copies and offered infinite potential for upgrades and new features, however, instead, during year two, it’s just been the same recycled events over and over.

With winter fast approaching, there’s no better time to relaunch the game, bring old fans back and sell a bunch of new consoles over the holiday season.

Hollow: Knight Silksong Is Announced as a Big Holiday Indie Game

Not a Nintendo Direct goes by without hopes and dreams being dashed by the lack of Hollow Knight: Silksong.

The follow up to Team Cherry’s acclaimed indie darling was announced a long, long time ago now and the more time that passes, the more concern grows. Good job it’s appearing at this month’s direct, right? RIGHT?

N64 Comes to Nintendo Switch Online with Special Controller

There have been rumours floating around for a while now that Nintendo Game Boy games would be hitting the Nintendo Switch Online service, however, recently a mysterious controller has started doing the rounds.

This controller has lead many people to speculate that N64 games will be joining the library of NES and SNES titles on the service and honestly, there’s nothing I’d love more.

The N64 is the era that shaped me and nothing would make me happier than to be able to play those games again on my Switch.

Game Boy Games Also Join The Service

While I’d like to have N64 games more than Game Boy ones (probably), I think there’s a better chance of Game Boy games showing up during this Nintendo Direct.

The rumours have been circulating for a while now and I can’t help but feel they’ll come true very soon.

Bayonetta 3

There’s been plenty of reassurances from the Bayonetta 3 devs that we’d hear news of the much-anticipated title this year, but with only three months left, time is running out.

The game was announced at The Game Awards almost 4 years ago now and it’s about time Nintendo and Platinum Games gave fans something to feast upon.

The Final Smash DLC Character is Announced – Everybody is Pissed Off

It goes without saying that you can’t please everybody, and we’ve seen that with some of the recent announcements of Smash DLC fighters, however, with the last one looming, there’s gonna be a lot of angry players.

What’s kept people going is the fact that they know that even if their favourite hadn’t previously been announced, there’s still hope. When the final character is announced and people realise it’s not the one they’ve been pining for – all hope is gone.

I’m not going to be brave enough to lock in a prediction but a third-party character seems likely and if I had to guess, I’d go with Jonesy from Fortnite.

Wind Waker and Twilight Princess HD Double Pack

It’s The Legend of Zelda’s 35th anniversary this year, but you’d never know that with Nintendo’s lack of celebration.

We were treated to a small showcase at the beginning of the year but since then, the series hasn’t had much of a look in. Hopefully that changes during the September Nintendo Direct.

The big crumb of hope comes from the Wind Waker/ Twilight Princess HD rumours that kicked up around February. If ever there was a time to announce them, that time is now!
