I think it’s safe to say that Persona 5 Strikers is one of DualShockers’ most anticipated games of the year. Now that reviews are out and saying that the game is a worthy sequel to 2017’s Persona 5, the hype is real. For those of us who haven’t preordered it yet or are waiting until release day to pick it up, the question running through our heads is “which version should I get?” The game is available on PC, PS4, and Switch so the choice may be tricky for console owners. Let’s break down Persona 5 Strikers Switch vs PS4

Persona 5 Strikers PS4:

The first thing that many people care about when picking up a game is the graphics. On the PS4, P5S outputs visuals at a high resolution. Depending on if you’ve got the PS4 Pro or the base version, your resolution may differ slightly, but if your console is able to do it, the game can run at 4K. Persona 5 Strikers promises 60 FPS throughout the game and hits that mark relatively well, with only a handful of slowdowns in extremely busy areas. The PS4 version of the game offers players the choice between a resolution mode and a frame rate mode, but the game is generally well optimized, so it doesn’t really matter what you pick. If you’re lucky enough to be playing on the PS5 through backward compatibility, the frame rate shouldn’t even be an issue.

Persona 5 Strikers Nintendo Switch:

It shouldn’t be a surprise that the Switch is going to struggle in some of the areas where the PS4 and PS4 Pro succeed. That doesn’t mean that the Switch version of Persona 5 Strikers is bad or unplayable, just that it’s running on different hardware. The resolution when docked on the Switch aims for 1080p but does not always reach that mark. When in handheld mode, the game runs pretty well at 720p but that means it doesn’t look quite as crisp as you might hope. Because the Switch is less powerful than the PS4, it has a much shorter draw distance and the frame rate is all over the place. Strikers aims for 30FPS on the Switch but rarely achieves that. There are constant slow-downs when large groups of enemies appear, which is part of the main loop of the game. There are no graphics vs. frame rate options in the Switch version of the game.

Conclusion:

At the end of the day, it’s up to the individual to buy what they think is best. It’s clear that the PS4 version of the game runs better and has crisper visuals, but you can take the Switch anywhere on the go. There are definitely pros and cons to each version.
