If there has been a sales chart recently: it’s probably been topped by Injustice 2. The new fighting game from developer NetherRealm Studios and publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment topped May’s PlayStation Store sales chart. It was alsothe best-selling game for the month in the United States. And now, it’s been revealed as the best-selling game for the month of May (at retail) in the UK as well: pulling off the rare trifecta.

Last month’s chart-topper, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, continued it’s strong performance: only slipping to No.3. Right above it at No.2 is Arkane Studios and Bethesda’s new release Prey, which despite a rather lackluster first month performance, still did strong enough to grab the second-best position.

Elsewhere on the chart, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia at No.18 and PlayStation VR exclusive (and one of the hardware’s biggest and most anticipated releases) Farpoint at No.13 round-up the rest of the new debuts. Meanwhile, re-entries of Dishonored 2 and Gears of War slightly shake-up what is otherwise a chart full of many familiar faces, such as GTA V, Rocket League, and FIFA 17.

Last month debuts — Persona 5 and Yooka-Laylee — failed to retain a spot in the Top 20 in their second month. Meanwhile, Sniper Ghost Warrior 3, the other new debut from last month, managed to hold on, sneaking on via the No.20 spot.

As for the physical market as a whole, May 2017 only sold 818,366 games (a number that is down 28.5% year-on-year) and produced £24m in revenue (down 41%).

Software sales likely fell so steeply due to May 2017’s inferior line-up. Last May, the industry saw big releases such as Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Overwatch, and Doom. This month in comparison saw Injustice 2 and the struggling Prey.

As for publishers specifically, Nintendo once again came out on top in regards to revenue for the month: thanks to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (No.3), The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (No.10), and Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia (No.18).
