The Switch iteration of The Outer Worlds was supposed to have already released by now, but the ongoing coronavirus pandemic caused the game to be delayed indefinitely earlier this year. Fortunately, now that the outbreak has died down in China, which is where the Switch port’s developer, Virtuos, is located out of, Private Division has today announced a new launch date for the title.
The Outer Worlds is now planned to officially land on the Nintendo Switch later this summer on June 5, 2020. This means that in total, the game only delayed by about three months, which isn’t too extensive whatsoever. Especially considering the circumstances for the delay in the first place, to then be able to launch just a couple months later is great to see.

Additionally, Obsidian and Private Division provided new details on what fans can expect of the game’s physical edition. Originally, The Outer Worlds wasn’t planned to arrive on a Switch cartridge, but those plans changed around the same time as the game’s delay. Now, The Outer Worlds will release physically via a cartridge, but will still require a hefty download to still play.
“The retail version The Outer Worlds comes on a physical cartridge, and it will be accompanied by a day one patch that could be up to 6 GB,” Obsidian said on its official website. “This patch will optimize gameplay, provide additional hi-res textures, and include other fixes to provide the employees of Halcyon with the best gameplay experience. Please ensure you have planned accordingly and have available space necessary for the patch.”
