Sony Might Be Teasing a PS5 Reveal for CES 2020

This one needs to be taken with a huge grain of salt, but Sony may be quietly teasing a reveal of PS5 news for their annual CES press conference next week. CES 2020 takes place from January 7-10, and Sony will take to the stage for their conference on January 6. In that past, Sony hasn’t really had a major presence at the show, but, with a new console on the horizon, this could be a perfect opportunity to make a huge splash.

That said, it’s tough to predict exactly what Sony wants to do with their PS5 reveal. On the one hand, bringing it to CES 2020 would get the news in front of the wider tech audience. Sure, most people are going to be paying attention anyway, but the announcement might have further reach at a show like CES. On the other, if Sony produces an event just for the PS5, it would put the focus squarely on the system. They wouldn’t have to share any mental real estate with the latest in smart refrigerators.

It will be interesting to see how Sony approaches the impending announcement. Microsoft shot the first salvo with their reveal at The Game Awards. Does Sony follow up this quickly at another big show? Or do they do what they did the last time out and give the reveal it’s own stage? Only time will tell.

Personally, I don’t see Sony revealing the PS5 next week. They haven’t traditionally had a huge presence at CES and I don’t see why that would change for the PS5. If the reveal isn’t its own event early this year, then I will be very surprised. Either way, you can catch Sony’s CES press conference on January 6 at 5 pm PST.
