Known for its interesting twists on the usual formula of match-3 puzzle games, Puzzle Quest made a big impression with its original release in 2007. Following the release of its sequel Puzzle Quest 2 in 2010, the series is finally set to return after more than a decade-long absence with Puzzle Quest 3.

Publisher 505 Games has announced Puzzle Quest 3, the third installment of the hit puzzle RPG series, which will be arriving sometime later this year. So far the game has been confirmed to be debuting as a free-to-play release on PC and mobile, though it also seems that console versions of the game are planned; however, no specific consoles have been announced at this time.

So far there aren’t a ton of concrete details on Puzzle Quest 3, though an official website for the game has launched with a sign-up page to register for updates on the game as it gets closer to release. 505 Games has also given a few additional details on the game, mentioning that it will offer “a twist on traditional puzzle gameplay” alongside “an intense 1-versus-1 battle system realized in a 3D game world.”

While that isn’t a ton to go off of at the moment, the announcement of a third entry in the series is still likely to make Puzzle Quest fans happy after all these years. Other than the release of the series’ second installment in 2010, a remastered edition of the original game was released on the Nintendo Switch in 2019 called Puzzle Quest: The Legend Returns. Thankfully, later this year we’ll be able to look forward to a brand new installment of the dormant puzzle game franchise, but for now we’ll have to wait to hear more about its exact release date and final console platforms.

Puzzle Quest 3 will release on console, PC, and mobile sometime later in 2021.
