While it was expected to arrive at the tail-end of August, 2K Games has today announced that the remake of the original Mafia game will now not be released until September.

Divulged via the official Mafia Twitter account, 2K Games and developer Hangar 13 have now pushed Mafia: Definitive Edition back from its planned August 28 date to September 25. “Though we’d originally planned to release the game one month earlier on August 28, finalizing everything in time for that launch date has become increasingly challenging due to the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic, and the last thing we want to do is compromise the quality of the experience,” said the joint message from the developer and publishing explaining the reason behind the delay. “We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make Mafia: Definitive Edition the very best it can be for all of our fans worldwide.”

While many might surely be bummed to see Mafia: Definitive Edition getting delayed, considering how the recently released second installment in the series was viewed. In our own estimation, the remaster of Mafia II that 2K Games launched back in May was quite rough around the edges and hardly touched up the game in a meaningful way. Even though what we’ve seen of Mafia has looked much better than its follow-up, if Hangar 13 needs more time to ensure that the title is going to run and look better, than by all means, take that time.

When Mafia: Definitive Edition does launch in September, it will be coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC. To help tide you over until release, you can currently check out a new trailer for the game which just released a few weeks back.
