Long regarded as one of the best entries in the series, Devil May Cry 3 brings players back to the very beginning of Dante’s journey as the Son of Sparda. Originally released in 2005 for the PS2, DMC3 arguably is the entry that refined its combo-based, stylish combat for future entries to come, and with the upcoming Switch version next month, Capcom is pulling out the stops to bring some new features and mechanics to the classic action game. Specifically, players will now have Dante’s entire arsenal at their disposal to craft even more Ssstylish combos.

Ahead of the release of its release on Switch in February, Capcom producer Matt Walker shared another development update on the Switch version of DMC3 and its new features. Specifically, Walker shared that DMC3 on Switch will feature enhanced weapon swapping, where players will now be able to switch between all of the game’s melee and ranged weapons at a time.

In the original version of Devil May Cry 3, Dante already had the ability to switch between his different weapons (called Devil Arms), but could only switch between either two ranged weapons and two melee weapons at a time. With the latest update to DMC3 in the Switch version, Dante will now have the ability to swap between every weapon at his disposal using a new radial menu that can be accessed with the Joy-Con. This new weapon switching feature will bring DMC3 closer in line with the modern games in the series like Devil May Cry 4 and last year’s Devil May Cry 5, alongside the new Free Style mode that will allow Dante to switch between his combat abilities and further extend combos.

While the previous two Devil May Cry games came to Switch within the last year, the Switch versions were more or less straight ports that didn’t offer anything in the form of new features or mechanics. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case with DMC3 on Switch, and it’s encouraging to see that Capcom is bringing some added features to the game as an added incentive for players that might have played it before (like myself).

Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening – Special Edition will be coming to the Nintendo Switch on February 20, 2020, and is also available as part of the Devil May Cry HD Collection on consoles and PC. However, it seems like the Switch version of DMC3 will have some key upgrades from its original version, making it deal for either new players or long-time fans to revisit the classic action game.
