During Nintendo’s previous E3 showing, back in 2019, they shocked the world by revealing a sequel to the masterpiece that is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Now, during its E3 2021 Nintendo Direct, Nintendo has once again appeased its fans with the announcement of a 2022 release date for the sequel, nicknamed BOTW 2.
Rumors of the release date had been swirling around over the past few weeks, with industry insiders speculating on a 2022 release window. And the new trailer has Nintendo confirming this estimate, with ton of new details and information teased about the upcoming Nintendo Switch game.
The new trailer for the Breath of the Wild sequel features Link using several abilities from the original game, but as brand new ones as well, including going through certain walls.
Most notably, Link is seen exploring floating islands above Hyrule. The whole game feels like a reference to Nihon Falcom’s Ys 2, with a giant portion of land with Hyrule Castle being lifted in the sky.
The BOTW sequel is very close to what some imagined when first hearing about Skyward Sword years ago, and I’m personally incredibly excited for the game. 2022 can’t come soon enough.
Interestingly enough, Nintendo still has yet to reveal the game’s official title. Meaning for a few more months ahead, we will still be nicknaming the title Zelda Breath of the Wild 2. Or BOTW Sequel game. Nintendo will hopefully reveal more as we head towards 2022.
