Yesterday Gearbox Software, developers of Borderlands 3, announced through their official Twitter channel, that any player who donates $5 or more to Direct Relief through the Gearbox Loot Store would receive an in-game “Antisocial Mask” cosmetic item.

The $5 minimum donation to Direct Relief, a charity who “get protective gear and critical care medications to as many health workers as possible, as quickly as possible”, instantly nets you a SHiFT Code for a cosmetic face mask for each of the game’s four Vault Hunters. The mask, somewhat reminiscent of the ones we are currently seeing in everyday life, comes in different colours to match the hunters and sports a mouthpiece like that of a Psycho.
In a press release Thomas Tighe, CEO of Direct Relief said “This campaign and these contributions are coming at a critical time in the pandemic” as States across America continue to open. He added “we continue to see surges in the spread of Coronavirus and there is still a need to provide PPE for frontline healthcare workers. Direct Relief is deeply grateful to Gearbox for its partnership.”
These aren’t the only Borderlands 3 mask that Gearbox are offering either, again through their official store, you can pick up a set of 3 real life cloth face masks for $19.99. However since the charitable announcement yesterday these reusable masks have been in and out of stock.
This seems like a good move from Gearbox as they step into the spotlight to support the relief efforts during the devastating Covid-19 pandemic, in a week in which their third Borderlands 3 campaign DLC, Bounty of Blood: A fistful of redemption, comes out. The DLC is due out on the 25th and promises a new Western theme.
