Ice-T — famous rapper, record producer, and Law and Order: SVU actor — hinted at some pretty exciting news on Twitter after the reveal of the Borderlands 3 trailer during PAX East yesterday. Specifically, that he may be taking up a voice-acting role in the upcoming loot-shooter.

News comes by way of Tracy Marrow (AKA Ice-T’s) verified Twitter account where he posted a bit of rumor about himself:

After that interesting tweet, the official Borderlands Twitter account replied with the following vague remark:

Dissecting the original tweet, although Ice-T uses the word “rumor” (and since there’s no evidence or official announcements to back it up, it technically counts as such) the fact that he made sure to include a retweet of the initial reveal of the Borderlands 4K trailer and the fact that he even stated anything in the first place is strong evidence to the validity of said rumor.

Looking at the reply from the official Borderlands 3 account, one could easily and rightly assume that it’s simply meant to shut down the tweet. Whether because it’s not true or because Gearbox doesn’t want that piece for information out is still up in the air with that interpretation.

However, my opinion is that the reply was intended to have more of a coy, joking sort of tone in order to imply some truth to the statement without actually revealing anything prematurely. That would fit right in with the signature Borderlands humor, and Ice-T is known to do voice acting and Tweet often ahttps://twitter.com/FINALLEVEL/status/1105574340341436416bout his love of gaming:

Regardless of how one reads into it, it’s still pretty thrilling to consider someone as huge as Ice-T having a speaking role in a game already so highly anticipated.

During the PAX East panel, Randy Pitchford said that Gearbox has been working on Borderlands 3 for five years at this point and they are dedicated to making it the worthy successor that many have been begging for since Borderlands 2. The game’s trailer shows off some of how Gearbox hopes to up the ante this time around by including over one billion guns and even weapons that can walk on their own two feet.

While Take-Two has confirmed before that Borderlands 3 would be coming out next fiscal year, a fan theory hints at an October 2019 release based on clues in the trailer. Since the announcement, the popularity of the other titles in the series have been surging.

Borderlands 3 will be available on PC and likely PS4 and Xbox One, though exact details on consoles and release plans are unknown. If you want to play the classics with 4K textures, feel free to grab The Handsome Collection via Amazon.
