The new Coronavirus (COVID-19) has been expectedly impacting the production of the Fighter Pass Vol 2 DLC coming to Super Smash Bros Ultimate.
Director Masahiro Sakurai revealed in this week’s Famitsu magazine, in his usual bi-weekly column, that he was supposed to meet with the publisher of one of the characters included in Fighter Pass Vol 2, to finalize plans about them. However, this meeting has been indefinitely postponed due to Coronavirus.
Masahiro Sakurai also mentioned how even if Nintendo reveal one of the new characters in Fighter Pass Vol 2 now, development might not go on schedule because of Coronavirus. He also shared that he expects some games’ release to be delayed in the near future, as game development is slowing down or stopping around the world.
This week’s Famitsu magazine technically won’t be out until tomorrow, and we learned all that via the usual leaks.
Six new characters will be included in Fighter Pass Vol 2. Masahiro Sakurai already confirmed all six characters have been selected already, and he stressed out how it’s Nintendo picking them, not himself. Of course, it’s fine to be passionate, but this means all the people overbearingly begging for characters to Nintendo or Sakurai over on Twitter are not only being rude, but they’re also wasting their time. Sakurai also mentioned these characters will be the last ones we’ll get.
It’s rare that Sakurai actually speaks about Super Smash Bros Ultimate in his Famitsu bi-weekly column. Usually, he engages in much broader subjects, like how 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, Vanillaware’s latest game which we’re doing a translated let’s play of, is a masterpiece.
The latest DLC character in Smash Ultimate is Byleth from Fire Emblem Three Houses. Personally speaking, I’m hoping Fighter Pass Vol 2 will include Adol from Nihon Falcom’s Ys series, and Laala from TakaraTomy’s Pretty Series.
