Atlus has released new information about their upcoming collaboration with VanillaWare, 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita in 2018 in Japan, with a western release planned.

The publisher reminds fans of Odin Sphere’s scenario where players once played through the story through the perspective of five protagonists. The system they use was enjoyed by players and will be seen in 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, which will have the same director, George Kamitani. However, this time, players will play as 13 protagonists set in the 1980’s in a place where it’s commonplace to pilot mechs known as “Sentinels”.

The game will return to familiar areas throughout the campaign, like the train station. Being that this is a VanillaWare game, what sets 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim apart is that it’s not based in a fantasy world. Instead, it’s is set in a modern Japan. The developers use light in the scenes to produce detailed and beautiful environments.

In an event known as “that day”, despair washed over the region, regardless of who you were or what class you were apart of. However, one boy named Juurou Anbu stood up against this and fought back. The color of orange twilight swept over the city. Fire erupted and smoke filled the streets. No one knew exactly what was going on.

During gameplay, the story will switch between the perspectives of 13 protagonists. This group of individuals have made up their minds about fighting against the despair and learning the truth. They each hold an important key to the story.

There is going to a choice system that determines how the story progresses. These events will be left up to the player and how they approach certain situations.

As of right now, two protagonists of been revealed, a boy name Juurou Anbu and a girl named Iori Fuyuzaka. Each of the main characters will pilot a Sentinel to fight back against the coming destruction. One of the Sentinels is called “Second Generation Type-1 Sentinel No. 13.”, but it will not be the only model.
