Sega announced on this month’s SegaNama stream that Yakuza: Like a Dragon will soon get a DLC adding a New Game Plus mode along with a new difficulty level. New elements geared towards those who already cleared the game will be added as well. Toshihiro Nagoshi mentioned it’ll take a bit of time fro the DLC to roll around as they need to debug things first.
New Game Plus is something you find in most JRPGs, so it makes perfect sense for Yakuza: Like a Dragon to add one. The fact that the game didn’t launch with New Game Plus right away is a bit of a bummer for those who already cleared the game since January. But better late than never. Yakuza: Like a Dragon is regularly getting free DLC since its release, including bonus costumes, and the seventh free DLC pack will release on February 27.
This month’s SegaNama was held on February 25. During the stream, Toshihiro Nagoshi and Ayana Tsubaki chatted about many different subjects including the various game events which were canceled due to the new Coronavirus. Nagoshi mentioned he especially feels bad for canceled tournaments. Promotional events and the like can always be rescheduled via streams or press releases instead. However, players who’ve been training for months for a tournament pretty much can’t do anything if it gets canceled. Nagoshi also mentioned he recently met with many DJs from around the world at a recent Yakuza concert event. One DJ from Germany told him he’s currently playing Yakuza: Like a Dragon, translating every single line with machine translation. The stream included many serious or fun discussions like these, and was a pretty interesting watch, as usual. The stream’s YouTube video was made private soon after it ended, so you can find it on Periscope instead.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon released in Japan on January 17. The game is scheduled to release later in 2020 in the west, exclusively on PlayStation 4. The western version will probably include all the free DLC from the start. All the previous main Yakuza games are also now on PlayStation 4 if you want to try out the series. Yakuza: Like a Dragon changes protagonists, and you don’t really need to have played the past ones to enjoy it, but you’ll enjoy it much more if you do. Fairy Tail‘s Hiro Mashima also called the game a masterpiece.
