Sega secretly revealed the release date for Yakuza Kiwami on PC through a gif of beloved Majima Goro on the game’s Steam page. If you go step-by-step and check each frame of the gif, you’ll notice the date February 19 appearing from under the manhole lid.

Yakuza Kiwami is a remake of the very first Yakuza game, released in 2005 on PS2. Yakuza Kiwami was first released on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 in Japan in 2016, and then for PlayStation 4 only outside the archipel. Yakuza Kiwami is perfect for those who missed the beginning of the saga of Kazuma Kiryu, as the game greatly improves the original’s graphics and adds many new gameplay elements. One of those additions is the “Majima Everywhere” system, with Majima Goro being able to appear at any time from anywhere, hunting down protagonist Kazuma Kiryu. This is what the gif on the Steam page is referencing and joking about.

Yakuza Kiwami also bases its battle system on the prequel game Yakuza 0, with Kiryu being able to use four different styles in battles, fit for any situation. Yakuza 0 is already available outside Japan on PlayStation 4 and Steam as I’m writing this.

Besides their main storylines, Yakuza games also hold many side activities available in the streets of Kamurocho, the fictional city based on Kabukicho, where most of the Yakuza series takes place in. From Sega’s classic arcade games to Karaoke and cabarets clubs, fully completing a Yakuza game takes forever and you’ll definitely have long hours of playtime awaiting you.

Yakuza Kiwami’s PC port was announced back in mid-2018  but still had no precise release date until today. This is great news for PC players who haven’t got into Yakuza Studio’s “entertainment for adults” series yet and hopefully, more Yakuza games will be coming to PC soon. Yakuza Kiwami 2 is already out for PS4, and might follow the same path to the way of PC in the next few months.

You can check our review of Yakuza Kiwami from 2017 if you’d like to learn more about the game.

In related news, another game by Yakuza Studio, Judgment, will be coming west in Summer 2019, without any content removed, exclusively on PlayStation 4.
