Sega was supposed to announce the future of the Yakuza franchise tomorrow, but today at least part of the reveal was leaked by the Tiwanese PlayStation Store
Looks like we’re getting Yakuza Kiwami 2, as I basically begged in my review of Yakuza Kiwami.
According to the leaked description, the game is a remake of Yakuza 2 with additional content, created with the latest iteration of the Dragon Engine for PS4, which is the one used for Yakuza 6.
The local release date is marked as December 7th, and the game promises a more comfortable gameplay experience, beautiful graphics, bold sound and a rich playground that will achieve the “ultimate entertainment created for adults.”
Yakuza 2 was released in Japan in 2006, and in the west in 2008, and it was the last of the games of the franchise on PS2, before Yakuza 3 made the jump to PS23
It was also the first of the series to feature two main locations, with Kazuma Kiryu traveling to Osaka and visiting the districts of Sotenbori and Shinseicho, which are basically reproductions of the real areas of Dotonbori and Shinsekai, pretty much like Kamurocho is based on Kabukicho in Tokyo.
Yakuza 2 is regarded by many as the best Yakuza game, and I happen to be among those, so you can imagine that I’m smiling from ear to ear right now.
Below you can check out the leaked logo, and the store page in Chinese. We’ll probably hear more tomorrow, and this might not be the only Yakuza announcement we’ll get.
