Tokyo Game Show is now just around the corner. The Japanese expo is happening between September 23 – September 27 and the event, like many others, has moved to an online format this year. Capcom was one of the first major developers to outline their plans for the show, revealing that they will be showcasing more information on the upcoming Resident Evil Village and now, Microsoft and Xbox have followed suit.

In their blog post, Microsoft confirmed that their event will take place on September 24 at 9 PM JST and will be broadcast entirely in Japanese. The Xbox showcase will celebrate Japanese game developers, talk about updates coming to Microsoft Flight Simulator on Xbox Game Pass, share the creativity from the Japanese Minecraft creator community and review the first- and third-party announcements from recent months. The biggest take away however, is the fact that they will be sharing no new news on the Xbox Series X.

It’s probably no surprise that we won’t be getting any news on the next generation of Xbox at TGS. Microsoft struggles to shift units in Japan with estimates putting sales of the Xbox One well below 200k units over there. Perhaps more surprisingly though, there’s no Sony presence at this year’s event given they’re far more prevalent in the Japanese market.

While Capcom has already outlined plans to show off Street Fighter Champion Edition and Resident Evil Village, Tokyo Game Show would be the perfect time to reveal the heavily rumoured new Monster Hunter title for Nintendo Switch. The series is Capcom’s second best selling of all time (behind Resident Evil) and has a huge fanbase in Japan. The most recent entry in the Monster Hunter series, Monster Hunter: World, is Capcom’s best selling game of all time – clocking in more than double the sales of the second best selling game, Resident Evil 7.
