Even though VR won’t be something that the team at Xbox is focused on moving forward, that hasn’t prevented the company’s head Phil Spencer from appreciating experiences within the realm of virtual reality.

In a recent exchange on Twitter, Spencer revealed that he was able to play Valve’s upcoming release of Half-Life: Alyx earlier this summer and he seemed to like what he played. Spencer simply referred to the experience as “awesome” while simultaneously praising the gaming industry as a whole for continuing to pioneer in the VR space.

Spencer’s comments here come soon after he stated that VR wouldn’t be a focus for Microsoft’s upcoming Xbox Scarlett platform. Spencer said in a recent interview that “nobody’s asking for VR” when it comes to those who play in the Xbox space. “The vast majority of our customers know if they want a VR experience, there’s places to go get those,” he explained of the company’s decision. “For us, it’s about focus on our innovations right now,” Spencer stated in his new tweet. “It’s just not our focus with Scarlett.”

We’ll have to see if Valve can help reinvigorate a wider interest in VR when Half-Life: Alyx launches next year in March 2020. Perhaps if the virtual reality space starts to get much larger, then Spencer and the team at Xbox will more closely consider bringing the functionality to the platform in the future.
