It feels like we were talking about Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood‘s appearance at IGN’s Summer of Games just yesterday. Announced in 2017, the game, in development by Cyanide Studios, has since courted a publisher and revealed a release date for 2020, along with a spot on next-gen consoles. However, something must have changed for Werewolf: The apocalypse – Earthblood, as it released a new trailer today, rage-filled with plenty of werewolf action, and a new 2021 release date.

First, let’s look at the good news. Today’s new trailer for Werewolf embodies its theme of blood-boiling rage in the face of rampant ecological destruction. Set to some killer heavy metal, it’s about 50 seconds of a massive Werewolf rending everything in its path – from unfortunate humans to other mythical beasts – to bits. Besides that, there’s not a whole lot of gameplay in this gameplay trailer. There’s some combat in main character Cahal’s forms; you can see him sneaking as a wolf, tearing enemies asunder as a werewolf and aiming a crossbow as a human. That being said, the screen effects and quick switches between scenes make it difficult to discern exactly what’s going on all the time.

Now for the not-as-fun news: today’s trailer ends with a new release date of the game, February 4, 2021. That shifts the game’s release from this year – when it would have likely launched alongside the PS5 and Xbox Series X – to a couple of months into the lifespan of next-gen consoles. So far the reason behind the game’s delay hasn’t been explained, although this new release date is certainly more solid than the nebulous release date it had before, sometime in 2020.
