Warhammer: Vermintide 2 released early last year to critical and commercial success. Developer Fatshark has revealed today that they will be releasing the first expansion to the game – Winds of Magic – this August. The team put out a new cinematic trailer, which you can watch below.

Winds of Magic will bring quite a few new features to the Vermintide world. As is common in expansions like this, there will be a raised level cap to go along with a higher new difficulty. Additionally, the Beastmen will be added as a new enemy faction.

Each hero will also receive a brand new weapon. So, if you’ve mastered a hero and are looking for a new challenge, this looks like the expansion for you. I’m especially interested to see Sienna’s new flaming flail in action.

The biggest addition looks to be the Winds of Magic game mode. Entering this game mode will place players in a previously existing chunk of an adventure map. However, the various Winds of Magic will then activate, which modifies the map in some way. Each map is then given an objective for players to complete. If the objective is completed, a final challenge will make itself present and give players one last thing to conquer.

It reads a lot like the Greater Rifts of Diablo III mixed with Horde mode from Gears of War. You can up the difficulty of each map, providing tougher and tougher challenges for you and your friends. This sounds like a perfect addition for veteran squads looking for new ways to challenge their skill and teamwork.

Warhammer: Vermintide 2 – Winds of Magic is coming to PC, PS4, and Xbox One in August. PC players can sign up now if they’d like to participate in the upcoming Beta.
