November has been an odd month for action-RPG fans. While new games within the genre like Pagan Online have been announced, many genre fans felt burned by the announcement of Diablo Immortal for iOS and Android at BlizzCon. While I have my own thoughts on that whole situation, several other action-RPG titles like Warhammer: Chaosbane took this opportunity to capitalize on the fractured Diablo audience and garner some new fans.
While another title, Path of Exile, decided to just announce its PS4 port in the wake of the Diablo Immortal fiasco, Warhammer: Choasbane’s marketing team directly addressed the situation and made fun of Blizzard and NetEase’s mobile game altogether. They did so through a Tweet proudly showing the above image confirming that the game was not coming to mobile before plugging the game’s 2019 release date on PC, Xbox One, and PS4.
Call it mean-spirited, but it was definitely one good way for the developer to bring more attention to their upcoming action-RPG. That being said, outside of one brief trailer we actually haven’t seen much gameplay from Warhammer: Chaosbane even though it was announced all the way back in June.
Fortunately, the developers finally changed that today, giving us an in-depth look at the game’s soldier class and character. The soldier’s name is Konrad Vollen, and he is one of the four playable characters in the game. He specializes in melee and AOE attacks, though he can also work as a support character with banners he can place in the ground. Konrad’s unique ability also allows him to use his shield in order to stun and damage enemies.
The developers also revealed the game’s Bloodlust Meter, which lets players use powerful skills after killing enough enemies. Warhammer: Chaosbane is being developed by French developer Eko Software who were actually acquired recently by Bigben Interactive, the game’s publisher. In addition to Warhammer: Choasbane, which is actually the first action-RPG to take place in the world of the Warhammer fantasy tabletop game, Eko Software is also working on an unannounced hack ‘n slash title and a sports game.
