As a surprise announcement from earlier in the year, few would have expected that Digital Extremes’ popular free-to-play title Warframe would ever make its way onto Nintendo Switch, but with the game’s launch for the system last month, it’s already off to a very strong start.

Digital Extremes has announced that since its release in late November on Nintendo Switch, Warframe has reached over one million downloads on the platform, giving it a good start given that it’s only been a few weeks since the game arrived for the system.

Originally released in 2013, the game started out on PC before making its way to PS4 and Xbox One later on and in the years since release has become one of the most popular free-to-play titles out on the market. As of earlier this year, Warframe has reached nearly 40 million registered players worldwide, largely thanks to the game’s continuous updates and new content in the form of expansions and other features.

While the core experience of Warframe is designed similarly to games such as Destiny, the game hasn’t shied away from getting experimental either, such as a mode that turns it into an arcade style fighting game that debuted earlier this year.

Warframe is currently available on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
