At their annual “Bigben Week,” French publisher Bigben Interactive subtly announced that a new Vampire: The Masquerade game is in development.

Very little info was released about the project other than that it’ll be a narrative RPG developed by The Council developer Big Bad Wolf. In a press email delineating Bigben Week, Bigben Interactive confirmed that the game will be under the Vampire: The Masquerade license and is inspired by the rules of the TTRPG. The studio then stated they’ll release more information about the game at Gamescom 2019 in August.

A Vampire: The Masquerade V5 logo also makes an appearance at the end of a games showcase trailer for Bigben Week 2019. Some other titles include Paranoia, Werewolf The Apocalypse – Earthblood, and Warhammer: Chaosbane.

While Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 was announced by Paradox Interactive in March, this new title is an entirely separate game. Two Vampire: The Masquerade games being announced so close to each other comes as a surprise, especially considering that the last full-fledged entry came in the form of 2004’s Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines. Since then, we only saw a piece of choose-your-own-adventure interactive fiction for PC and mobile devices in 2017—Vampire The Masquerade: We Eat Blood. That being said, these two new games show Paradox’s dedication to bringing White Wolf’s TTRPGs into video game form.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is slated for release on PC, PS4, and Xbox One in 2020 with Blacklight: Retribution developers Hartsuit Labs behind its helm. You play a character wedged in a blood war between feuding vampire factions (the Thinbloods and the Tremere Clan have been revealed so far) on the streets of Seattle. The story will be “reactive,” leaving how well the world becomes familiar with the existence of vampires up to the player. Bloodlines 2 will be first-person and melee driven, placing an emphasis on fast-paced combat and the ability to stalk your prey as only a vampire can.
