In the past couple of months, Valve has certainly kept busy with a number of new game projects like Artifact and more, but recently it appears that the company may also be turning an eye towards streaming.

In a report from Venture Beat (via SteamDB creator Pavel Djundik), details surfaced that Valve has registered the domain for “Steam TV,” which seems to indicate that Valve may be preparing to launch its own streaming platform.

The timing of the streaming platform’s launch would most certainly be no coincidence for Valve given the proximity to The International, the company’s annual Dota 2 tournament that draws players (and hundreds of thousands of viewers) from around the world to watch the competition unfold.

With the burgeoning market for streaming platforms alongside major competitors like YouTube, Twitch, Mixer, and more, it’s unclear just yet how far Steam TV will expand as far as letting players stream their games (and view the streams of others), though hopefully launching on the back of The International will make for a good opportunity for Steam TV to flourish.

While details for the actual platform itself are scarce at the moment, it should only be a matter of time before we learn more about the service to coincide with The International, so stay tuned for more information as it comes up.
