The movie adaptation of PlayStation exclusive Uncharted has had a difficult time keeping a director. However, that streak of bad luck may have finally come to an end as Sony Pictures is reportedly interested in Venom and Zombieland director, Ruben Fleischer. The movie, based on the popular PS3 and PS4 video game series from developer Naughty Dog has had a streak of setbacks leaving some wondering if it would ever get made.

The Uncharted movie–which will star Tom Holland as series protagonist Drake and Mark Walberg as sidekick Sully–seemed to have finally been on track when Bumblebee auteur Travis Knight took over. He later had to drop out, due to a scheduling conflict. Fleischer would reportedly be the seventh director attached to the film. David O. Russell, Neil Burger, and Shawn Levy were just a few of the directors (of the bunch) who were previously on board to direct Uncharted‘s big-screen debut.

For those unaware, The Uncharted movie is a prequel to the PlayStation games and tells the story of how Nathan Drake met Victor Sullivan. The movie is described as being an Indiana Jones-like adventure that follows treasure hunter Drake in search of valuable loot. The screenplay is being written by Rafe Judkins, Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway.

Fleischer’s latest film, Zombieland: Double Tap is a sequel to the first film which he also directed. Both Zombieland movies were critically and commercially successful, however his Venom movie (which starred Tom Hardy) is still his biggest success bringing in $856 million at the box office. There have been no formal negotiations with Fleischer, but he reportedly has the job if he wants it.

Nathan Drake: The Uncharted Collection which is the first three Uncharted games remastered for the PS4 is currently available free to PlayStation Plus subscribers. If you were interested in picking up a copy of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, you can grab a physical version of the game on Amazon to help support the site.
