Twisted Wonderland console game coming soon to Switch?

Chizai Watch revealed that Disney Enterprises, Inc. registered Twst on April 8, the trademark was made public on April 27, 2021 JST.

Disney specifically registered Twst for home console games, alongside the usual mobile trademark. And a plethora of other categories for goodies and merch.

While nothing was confirmed yet, this could be a hint that a console version of Disney Twisted Wonderland is in the works. If it really does happen, it’s highly likely to be on Switch. For years now, the portable and home console hybrid from Nintendo replaced the PlayStation Vita as the go-to platform for Otome games and Rhythm games.

At the end of the day, keep in mind this is all speculation, as Disney hasn’t made any official announcements yet. We’ll be sure to tell you as soon as we can if a Twisted Wonderland console game does get announced in the following months.

What’s Twisted Wonderland? Franchise explained

If you’ve never heard about Twst, long story short it’s a franchise set in a school with Disney villains, but all turned into bishonens. With gender bending in effect for female villains. One of my personal favorites is Divus Crewel, one of the school’s teachers, based on Cruella from One Hundred and One Dalmatians:

The Twisted Wonderland franchise is a media mix project, born of the cooperation between Disney Japan and Sony Aniplex. Twisted Wonderland most notably features character designs and scenario by Yana Toboso, the mangaka of Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler).

A Twisted Wonderland adventure game, (in the Japanese sense of the “Adventure” genre, so it’s similar to what English fandoms call visual novels) launched in March 2020. Only in Japan, with rhythm game and gacha elements. Disney Twisted Wonderland has been since then one of the most popular mobile games in Japan. Together with Genshin Impact, Ensemble Stars, and FGO.

Taking all of this into account, a console adaptation definitely doesn’t seem far fetched. Twisted Wonderland has a sizable fanbase outside Japan as well, despite the original game only being in Japanese. A console game would be the occasion for us to get a localization.
